Van Cleef & Arpels, Les Voyages Extraordinaires Creative Journeys From Design To Artistic Craftsmanship
The twenty students attending the Creative Academy have worked on the theme of Jules Verne’s “Voyages Extraordinaires” (Extraordinary Journeys), which has inspired Van Cleef & Arpels’ latest High Jewellery collection. The Maison has selected four of Verne’s famous stories: Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and From the Earth to the Moon. These novels, written in the late 19th century, still remain extremely modern today.
The students, supervised by the leading designer Ugo La Pietra with the support of the Cologni Foundation for the Métiers d’Art, have conceived their prototypes using four different materials: ceramic, wood, metal and methacrylate. The selected creations were produced by specialized craftsmen, chosen by Ugo La Pietra: Gabriella Sacchi (Spazio Nibe), Alessandro Rametta (La Fucina di Efesto), Michele Moro (Promet) and Luigi Cermenati.
The prototypes have been exposed in the Van Cleef & Arpels Boutique in Milan, during the Salone del Mobile 2011.
